SCHMIDT'S
Some mod German fare to match its sister, nearby Walzwerk.... The beer... I believe one of the largest selections of real german brew in town. In bottle or draft. If you order draft Schmidt's uses real german crystal beer mugs or tall or short gold rimmed beer glasses....Prices aren't bad and food is very tasty. $10 (not including tip) will get you a schnitzel (sausage) plate with sauerkraut and potato salad. I highly recommend the meal, since it all goes really, really well together.
ZAGUT FAVE:
Best Schnitzel in the city. There I said it. Did I mention the fried egg, pickled anchovies and capers on top? Or that the generous crispy moist and delicious veal was served over a bed of baked cauliflower? I also loved shopping for kitchy German deli products and candies while I waited for my dinner. I sat at the community table with other solo diners - making this a perfect spot to satiate my occasional Schnitzel cravings! Reviewed by Mrs. Robinson SF on 08/26/2009.
