EL HERREDERO RESTAURANT

Wonderful decor, fast service and delicious food....Good, homemade salsa, warm chips. Totally worth stopping in for a quick meal. Fresh taste and totally delicious!

YELP FAVES:

First of all I want to point out that a meal for 2 here with chips, salsa, 2 drinks & 2 plates came to $21 including tip! How could you go wrong.
The high point of the meal was definitely the chips, salsa and bottle of Mexicoke I had. Absolutely delicious, you could taste the lard that they fried the chips in. Yum. I still believe that the only way to drink Coca-Cola is when it is made with sugar and served from a glass bottle. I immediately poo poo any Mexican restaurant that doesn't have the local coke on the menu.
For my main I had Chilaquiles with Chorizo. Upon first inspection you might think that this was a generic plate of food but my first mouthful suggested it was so much more.
The chilaquiles came draped in this delightfully piquant sauce and fresh chorizo was married with hot tortilla chips and to my surprise some perfectly cooked carrot pieces! I'd never found carrots in the food at any other mexican place and they certainly did not disappoint. The beans were house made and you could tell as they had nice whole beans inside the usual refried goo. The rice was awesome, my only complaint was shoving a few bits of lettuce slathered in ranch dressing seemed a little out of place on the plate. It didn't stop me eating it though.
Home I went, belly full to the point of bursting and that night I even had a dreams about El Herradero involving Bill Clinton and the cast of Pecados Anejos.---Tony S. Rambunctious raconteur 11/23/2008

I've been wanting to try this place for years, years I tell you! I mean, the building with that orange fiberglass roof is one of the most memorable places on Mission Street.
I don't know a single other person who's been in this place though, so when I had the chance to attend a party here last weekend, I jumped at it.
We didn't have a regular sit-down dinner though - it was a stand-up affair. Chafing dishes on one side of the dining room held quesadillas, these things that were like big taquitos and chicken enchiladas.
The quesadillas and big taquitos were both tasty, but it's pretty hard to screw up a quesadilla, right? Enchiladas are another story though and these were delicious - made just like my Mexican ex-fiancee taught me. Yum.
The staff was also SUPER friendly. Given the chance, I'd definitely return for a regular meal.
