Mission Cultural Center For Latino Arts
The Mission Cultural Center has been a nucleus of the mission district's famous cultural scene for over 3 decades.
This cultural institution is dedicated to cultivation of the arts. Here you can find classes offered in music, dance, capoeria, theater, print making, and many other classes. There is a special emphasis on Latin dance and the Center is well known for its large, spectacular Carnaval San Francisco contingents when the center gives back to the community for its year-round support with a heartfelt performance.
There is a strong after school arts program that is largely free.
The location is in same block as the 24th St. BART and the very regular Mission-15 and Mission-49 bus lines so this spot is easily accessible via public transportation. Parking is difficult unless you cross Cesar Chavez to the parking across from Roccapulco Night Club.
Besides the dance and music studios the two main public spaces are the theatre and the gallery on the 2nd floor where the administrative offices are located.
MCCLA's Mission Grafica is particularly well-known for the silk screen art work and style that has evolved with a special nod to Chilean master artist Rene Castro whose work still resonates.
