BISSAP BAOBAB Featured
Welcome to Bissap Baobab. Baobab was an idea planted in the Mission with deep roots in West African Senegalese tradition. Now it has grown and blossomed so that people from all over the world gather under the reach of its branches to celebrate life.
We invite you to join us in the celebration and experience the genuine warmth of our friendly restaurant. In a causal atmosphere you can feast on Mafe and Dibi dishes, sip our exotic homemade ginger cocktails and rums and let the rhythms of music from around the world move you. You are always among friends here. So, please, come in, make yourself at home, and enjoy the food, friendship, and spirit of Bissap
YELP FAVE: For the longest time I was confused about the 2 Baobabs, but I think I've got it straight now: Bissap Baobab is, for the most part, a cozy-but-exotic restaurant (albeit one with a bitchin' bar--yes, hibiscus and tamarind cocktails are great, but the infused rum is really where it's at--you can't even tell it's alcoholic), and Little Baobab is, for the most part, a dance club (albeit one with food? Not sure since I still haven't been yet).
I'm happy to say that in Africa, as in America, the west coast totally beats the east coast. Whereas Ethiopian was like a blander version of Indian food, this Senegalese stuff is a tour de force of sweet, creamy goodness that beggars description to the point where it counts as an entirely new genre (I could say Caribbean meets Curry, but that doesn't do it justice). Yes, coconut seafood is a classic (the tilapia tastes like pancakes, Wes M. 7/15/2009
