Velvet Cantina

An old school bordello look paired with potent margaritas enticing elixirs & alluring mexican fare.

YELP FAVE:

Ahhh, the Velvet Cantina, serving up down-home Mexican food with a side of trance music and a whole lotta cumin (the spice, silly!) -by adorably twinkie waiter-boys.

From the beginning of this description, you may be expecting something pretentious like Zazil or Tres Agaves. But the Velvet Cantina does it well in a dark downstairs room with wood paneling, lots or old red lamps, and some racy murals. There are even a pair of matching Charro Candles behind the bar --the original Hoochie-Coochie Girl! I think their carpenter may have gone overboard with the crown molding and a miter box.

Apparently, they do happy hour at 10pm, including weekends. Note to self: check that out!

This is a seriously odd little restaurant, but the food is very very good, the prices are low and the margaritas kick ass! And I sure as hell can't find any fault with that! ---
